Immanuel

Meet On The Road full text is available to read online for free.

In the heart of Easter, I found myself inside a beautiful local church. Although I wasn't particularly religious, I was drawn to the peaceful atmosphere. As I listened to the sermon, something caught my attention. The preacher was discussing the meaning of the name "Immanuel," which translates to "God is with us." This struck a chord with me, as it was also the name of the young man I had met on my first rainy cold night in Rosario. The coincidence was not lost on me, and I felt a sense of comfort in the idea that perhaps there was a higher power guiding me on my journey.

With these thoughts swirling in my mind, I wandered through Independence Park. My thought was broken by a voice, familiar yet unexpected, echoing, "Lee!" As I turned, my eyes met those of Immanuel, his face breaking into a grin, a vivid memory from our earlier encounter. By his side was a young woman, his girlfriend whose eyes radiating curiosity about the stranger her companion seemed to know.

The coincidence was divine. In a vast city like Rosario, the odds of our paths crossing again were slim. We delved into a conversation, the barriers of language challenging yet endearing as we flipped through an English-Spanish dictionary like our earlier date, laughing at our clumsy translations. Yet the time, the ever-fleeting companion, seemed to rush as I noticed a hint of impatience in his girlfriend's demeanor. With a heavy heart, we promised another rendezvous, even as we acknowledged the erratic nature of our travels.
